Trust
The CESSDA Trust Group offers both existing and aspiring service providers guidance and support in meeting a range of issues and standards relating to trusted data and services. CESSDA requires the adoption of specific criteria such as the internal obligations required from all members (CESSDA statutes) and the trustworthy digital repository (TDR) requirements set by the CoreTrustSeal.
These goals must be met within the evolving infrastructure (skills, services and technology) of European and international research data science.
CESSDA Trust Group consists of a core of service providers with experience in trust standards and certification and key contacts representing each of the CESSDA members and aspiring members.
The group's goals are met through:
- Guidance, engagement and support to members in understanding, acquiring and maintaining compliance with CESSDA obligations and the requirements of the CoreTrustSeal.
- Monitoring and reviewing compliance at an individual and organisational maturity level. Engaging with trust-related elements of the CESSDA work plan including other working groups and projects.
- Maintaining an overview of the trust landscape including certification standards and the emergence of the FAIR data principles and the requirements of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC).
Training
The Training Working Group maximises the potential of the trainings offered by each Service Provider and promotes harmonisation and knowledge transfer within CESSDA.
The CESSDA Training Group creates a place where CESSDA Service Provider staff, archivists, data producers and researchers working in the wide area of social science and humanities can find training, advice and educational resources on:
- research data management
- data discovery and use
- digital preservation and data archiving
- CESSDA tools and services.

Technical
This core group aims to monitor and advise on needs regarding technical services.
CESSDA’s technical infrastructure and services will be technology intensive but decentralised, requiring a common platform to ensure interoperability and an efficient and sustainable model for the future, as described by the CESSDA WG2 on Technical Services.
The technical framework outlined by the CESSDA Technical Framework Project currently at work distinguishes between general sets of common standards to follow and the more practical tools, tests and common repositories necessary to handle and guide everyday development work and to ensure that CESSDA has control over products. These general rules of best practice need to be maintained, kept up-to-date and in sync with CESSDA's needs.
Tools & Services
The Tools & Services Working Group was established in late 2017 to represent both users’ and SPs’ interest in terms of what needs to be developed. The group’s goal is to prioritise and realise new tools and services from Service Providers and third parties for our users: both data users and data producers.
